Democratic Governors Voice Concern Over Health Care Bill

Republican governors are not alone in worrying about what the proposed legislation on health care could mean for their already overstretched budget: Democrats share the same concern. “We worry,” said Governor Jack Markell for Delaware, in an interview Wednesday, hours before he was elected chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. “And we make every effort to communicate. We recognize the need to do something, and we support doing something. But we want to make sure it is done in such a way that the state budget is not adversely affected. “From the beginning, the Republican governors have been more openly critical of health legislation – in particular, the bill proposed by Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader in the Senate – which they said would chair billion in extra costs for Medicaid as insurance coverage expands. At their own meeting in Texas two weeks ago, said Republican governors, Democrats felt the same way as they did, but were less likely to say that out of loyalty to President Obama. Asked about this, “said Mr. Markell,” We may have expressed some of our concerns less publicly . But I think all governors are certainly concerned about what the potential impact of some of these laws. “Mr. Markell said that there was no division between the leaders and the administration about the need for some form of legislative proposals by health care, said he was reminded of the need interviews with small businesses struggling with cost of Health and components that have not been able to get health care coverage. He said that his concern was some of the bills being considered by the transfer of part of the cost of the state – but said he was convinced about after conversations with the White House would not be the case. Whatever the outcome of discussions on health care, Mr. Markell said he did not think would affect the election results for governor in 2010, the year where 19 GUBERNATORIAL seats held by Democrats vote. Key issues, said the governor was the employment and the economy. And in that regard, Mr. Markell said he was hopeful that the White House and Congress have healthy discussions to discuss and pass some legislation to create jobs. “Right now, I think we should focus much on State-level employment and the general economic climate, “he said. Asked if Mr. Markell thought Obama and Congress spends too much time on care at the expense of the economy, he replied: “Yes, I think it would be nice if you could fill the health and move forward.”
