Fifa 09 (PS3, XBox 360) (Review)
With the annual battle between Fifa and Pro Evolution Soccer getting closer and closer in terms of game quality, Fifa 09 may just take the spoils this time.
With improved game physics and AI, coupled with superb online gameplay this really is as enjoyable a game of footbal you will find on a games console. With over 10,000 players fully licensed and multitudes of tournaments and leagues to play in, both online and offline this really is a joy to behold.
The beauty of the game is that you can pick up and play and enjoy the basics, but after weeks and even months of playing you still find new ways to play the game and utilise more complex actions such as the skills-stick or on the fly tactics which really make a difference to your teams play.
There is also the weekly updates to team/player data that keeps your game completely up to date with player form and transfers.
All in all this is a great game well worthy of a purchase and for me edges the battle with PES because of the reliability of the online gameplay.

I think I still prefer PES to fifa. It just seems to be more realistic whereas Fifa still seems to have that arcade feel to it. I haven’t played this one too much though so I might change my mind soon.

I have a hard time using the tacticts. I change the formations and the way and the direction that my players attack, but it still doesn’t seam like any change has been made. But FIFA 09 is the best game ever.

I’ve had every fifa since 2003, and after the purchase of my ps3 in 2007, I decided to get PES2008, to test it out.
Although I enjoy it, it’s a completely different game from Fifa, and I find that I can’t get into it.
In the end, it comes down to personal preference; and mine is with Fifa.
That being said – fifa09 was a big let down for EA. The game play is decreased in quality, and the graphics seem less realistic. I know they’ve added cool new features, but I personally feel it’s a step down from 08.

I was just thinking how even though it’s moved on in leaps and bounds, and I know that the graphics are not the prime feature of the game… How much more realistic, ’soft’ the graphics could be. I was expecting the new platform nextgen consoles to have an almost animate movie, sort of Beowulf quality that just seems to be lacking. However, , as usual, will just HAVE to buy this game for the Xbox.

my review for FIFA 2009 PS3 is based primarily on the European game (the PAL version), although I am lead to believe that the game is extremely similar worldwide. What FIFA and every football game ever made is all about is the game play – how realistic is it, and how fun is it? Striking a balance seems to be the holy grail for some developers, and none have ever come as close as E.A. Sports have with the FIFA 2009 PS3 version. The PS3’s graphics obviously help a lot with the realism of the game, as you can now recognise players just from their in-game faces, and the in-game animations are clearly making the most of the latest motion capture technology. In addition to this, the game’s commentary is once again done brilliantly by Martin Tyler and Andy Gray – giving the game a very realistic feel.
